Foodporn: Cafehopping at Spruce
Hey!
So yesterday I had extra time before going for a haircut, and we decided to visit Spruce which is a cafe located at Upper Bukit Timah area. We've passed by the cafe many times but never went in to try anything, hence decided to stop over and do just that :>
So here's what the interior looks like!
Menu (just one side)
Okay so because we are way too "genius", we stepped in around 4-5pm, which is when the kitchen is closed. So I had to specially request the manager to ask the kitchen to make the side because it's more worth it than the cakes :/ (don't do that when you go haha people need to rest)
Is this not one of the creepiest yet super modern and cool devil card collector thing you've ever seen? I'm naming him Boris. Now try calling him Boris don't you think it works? Okay that was lame :/
Anyways here's what they offer for afternoon tea! Their cakes are $8-$10, cookies and scones around $3-$4, and that range applies for cupcakes as well. I'd say the cakes are pretty steep in pricing :/ So here's what the interior looks like!

So here's what we ordered! Okay it was slightly dug into by the time I got there to take the photo so I'm sorry for the half empty flat white. But besides the flat white, we ordered hot chocolate and truffle fries.
I don't drink coffee so no comment about that. The hot chocolate did not taste good - it was so watery :( I was thoroughly disappointed because the chocolate was definitely not rich enough. It looked like someone dumped half the required hot chocolate powder into a cup, also didn't bother much with the milk and just added water instead. The hot chocolate didn't taste rich and slightly creamy, which is the ideal consistency for hot chocolate. This was like drinking from an empty hot chocolate cup with water added to it. And for $6, that's incredibly awful.
But look on the bright side too - they've got really great truffle fries. The truffle oil is actually below this thing layer of butter-herb combo sauce. It's $10, same price as Lo•ka'l (blogger previously) but this is definitely more worth it:
Firstly, the fries are hand cut, the fries at Lokal were not. Secondly, because you dip into the truffle oil, the fries are actually coated super well and you get so much more truffle flavour. And I don't need that marinara sauce if I've got ketchup and this huge truffle dip. It's more than enough for the whole dish. Because the prices are the same, this place definitely had a much better edge in terms of truffle fries.
One thing I must remark is that both cafes have seriously expensive food (20+ SGD). I've yet to try it but that's definitely not my favourite price range (itacho is cheaper)
That's it for this post! Thanks for reading :) hope you liked it, and don't forget to check out Spruce!
