I have a problem with gay-phobia

Just read this article this morning: http://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/entertainment/more-than-7400-petition-to-remove-american-singer-adam-lambert-from

And my overall feelings are complete outrage. I do not understand why there are people among us who are LGBT-phobic. Signing a petition to get a singer off just because he is gay? What a joke. Are you listening to him singing (which has nothing to do with his sexuality) or are you watching him with his boyfriend? If you didn't know he was gay, would you listen to his music? And would that music make you gay? Does listening to him = making you change your sexual preference or that of your child's? Because that's not how people discover they're gay. They realise it themselves, it's not an influence it's natural. Trying to hide the LGBT community from your children will only create an ignorant community; it's no different from being racist or a hater of religion, which we have always been taught to respect and give equality. I'm ashamed of all these 7,400 Singaporeans - you reflect a part of us that is the worst- unaccepting to change, unable to tolerate (which is what we have been TAUGHT since young), and unable to feel for other people - a selfish group who only cares for themselves and seem to reflect having learnt no values. What if I banned you from a concert for being straight just because the concert audience was for gay people? What if you were this artist, and I'm saying you can't come because you're not gay and you're coming for a concert for gay people? Would you feel outraged? Would you feel humiliated? Would you feel that people shouldn't even have cared about your sexuality, because as an artiste your art is what matters

Get your priorities straight, those 7,400 narrow-visioned, head-up-in-your-ass people. This concert is about artistry, creativity. To those who signed saying you want more local talent - well boohoo, I'm sure this performance is a great chance for our local talent to learn how to be better, because although I do love them as is, you would notice (and this is true) that we really don't hear of too many artistes getting fame globally. Perhaps this is a chance for our local talents to see how they can broaden their horizons, and aim to improve and become more acclaimed, sharing their works with more people around the world? Either way, I don't see the problem. So if you are one of those 7,400 people, shame on you. I hope that your next generation will never learn from you and become intolerant of communities that you do not support. I'm all for the LGBT, and I can very openly say that the reason is because since young I was taught to accept, be open to others, no matter how different they are from us. Because we are all people, and we deserve respect regardless of race, religion, and of course sexuality. Perhaps it's time to reflect on whether or not we should have lessons in schools to educate children about the LGBT community and try and create awareness  so we can stop having these negative citizens around?  You should be excited that we have such a skilled singer such as Adam Lambert around, regardless of his sexuality.

Please help to sign this petition encouraging him to come and perform with us to debunk all this bullshit

Love,
Khione
