Foodporn : KOH Sushi Bar and Grill

Hey guys! Back today with a really cool - super super affordable Japanese restaurant that sits right in the heart of Orchard Road - at Wisma Atrium. I had heard raving reviews about this place and couldn't help but want to satisfy my curiosities by checking the place out for dinner 😋 The experience was every bit as worth it as you think it to be - trust me.  So without further ado I'm gonna jump into all the food we ordered:
Our first order was the tendon - it's just a very standard Japanese rice bowl topped with a great variety of shrimp and vegetable tempura. I would say the best part about this dish is the tempura lava egg - not sure about you but that's definitely a first for me - which is heavenly. The yolk is soft and runny, and the outside is just a tender crispy golden brown.
I think the sweet sauce really complements the tempura and mixes with the rice super well as well. The miso soup was good - a little salty for my liking, but great nonetheless. This as just around $10-11 which is great value for such a generous portion (and definitely, definitely restaurant quality).
I also ordered a tempura udon which was just $9 😱😱😱 Totally SHOOK at the prices here seriously they are unbelievable considering how overpriced other Japanese restaurants are nowadays.
The udon came with some shrimp and vegetable tempura as well. However, I was having a flu for the past week so I couldn't eat any of the tempura (just the udon). Nonetheless, I was really happy with what I ordered and the noodles were actually such a good portion that I could barely finish. The udon was cooked really well, and the tempura was fried to a perfect golden brown. It's not too greasy feeling as well and you do leave feeling very satisfied.
Another dish we ordered was the salmon avocado maki, topped with some fresh ikura roe.
The sushi was fresh, the avocado was a beautiful green and the salmon sashimi used was of pretty great quality as well. I do believe this was around $8-10 for 8 pieces, which is pretty amazing and it's actually supermarket sushi prices at restaurant quality. Naturally the size of the maki are smaller - but you are getting, at least in my opinion - better quality of seafood and better taste and it's truly worth the dollar.
The only other sushi we ordered was the KOH Grill special. I know it has some sort of mayo on top of roasted salmon and I believe there's some cucumber or eel inside?
Either way the sushi rice was fragrant, the roasted salmon was charred to just the right degree, and the tobikko fish roe definitely topped it all off for me. This is actually one of my all time favourites at KOH despite the fact I've only had it twice (once dine in which you're seeing here, and once when someone packed some for me). The eel inside was really good as well and I couldn't feel any bones (call me a kid but I have a phobia of fish bones and swallowing them).
For the last part we ordered some lamb, I believe grilled. Couldn't have any of this because of my cold but oh well :/
It is a very sizeable portion though, and great for sharing. That's something else I really like about this place - all of their food are very shareable and it's so family friendly. The prices are really fair and basically so value for money considering location, considering quality, considering taste - I would even rate this above Sushi Bar value for money wise because it's considerably cheaper, and perhaps tied with Itacho Sushi but still pretty different from Itacho and even more affordable
Now as a student, I think it's fair to say when we hit town we want to spend as much money on shopping as possible and obviously when we get hungry it's a real struggle to find good, cheap food. As such I really do stress a lot on good affordable food wherever I can cos hun let's face it your clothes ain't gettin any cheaper ya feel me 😂 So check KOH out next time you're passing by Wisma, whether for a quick shopping break snack or a good meal, it's one that you definitely shouldn't miss.
Alright that's all for now guys! Check em out at the food court floor of Wisma Atrium 😍 and I hope you liked this post :) I'm struggling to type out content since I've been sick and having exams but I'll do my best! Thank you for reading
XOXO,
Khione ♥️
